Warks Golf News – April 2nd

There were a number of competitions that took place at various Golf Clubs across Warwickshire, in line with the government advice about spreading the Coronavirus outbreak.

Ladbrook Park
Mid-handicapper Mark Lanni beat the course at Ladbrook Park by five holes to win the Men’s Bogey Competition.
Lawrence Downs (four up) led the scoring in the third division by one from Michael Fay, while Luke Phelps (one up) needed countback to get the better of Mark Taunton in the top category.

Pype Hayes
Playing with one less player didn’t hinder James Weir, Dean Parkins and James Liddell in the Branscomb Texas Scramble at Pype Hayes as the trio shot the best score of net 54.3.
Second place went to the quartet of Barry Roe, Patrick Ryan, John Sheehan and Rhys Wigman (56), with Will Carter, Cecil Carter, Lee Jacks and Dean Wright just 0.7points behind in third.

Welcombe
Three points was the margin of victory in the sixth round of the Winter Pairs at The Welcombe as John Wyatt and Nigel Cooper (44) took the honours from Jake Day and Mark Byrd.
Third place went to Andrew Burton and Nick Burton (40) on countback from Peter McLoughlin and Ian McCann.

Oakridge
A birdie on the ninth hole capped a fine performance from Kevin Tutchener in the fifth round of Oakridge’s SOGS Winter League Singles competition as the 14-handicapper posted the best 12-hole total of 28 points.
The battle to grab the runners-up prize was a tight contest involving three high-handicappers as John Jenkins (26) gained a countback verdict from Stephen Smith and Philip Moore.

Whitefields
Paul Wilcox backed up his victory in the St Patricks Day Trophy at Whitefields by winning the Men’s Champions Trophy just six days later as a round of net 70 earned him a four-shot victory from Dean Baldock and Mark Tanner.
Robert Janczak, who finished runner-up to Richard Hadley in the second March Medal a week earlier, went one better in the Men’s Extra Stableford as he finished three ahead of Kieran Finn with 36 points.
A couple of gross birdies on the front nine helped 13-handicapper Richard Gray win the Men’s March Medal the following day as his score of net 67 kept him two clear of Ivor Bourne.

Wishaw
Forty six points was a magnificent winning tally in the March Stableford at Wishaw as 14-handicapper Mark completed the back nine in gross level par on his way to first place.
Lee Bryant, who was runner-up in the top division, and second division pacesetter Frankie Meszaros were also in excellent form as they bagged 45 points apiece.
